First, you may have noticed that educators from around the world will be visiting our program. Teachers from Italy, Spain, and Turkey will be wandering in and out of EDW through the end of this week and into the next. They are looking to create similar programs in their own communities, so please just keep doing your normal work. You do not have to present or feel like you are on camera. They genuinely want to understand what you are doing and why, so they can replicate it with their students back home.
Second, I will be going around to the different groups to offer you a chance to take "balloon pop" photos. I will ask if you want to step away from your project for ten minutes to participate. For a balloon pop, we set up a balloon with a flashbulb; when you pop the balloon with a pin, the flash goes off. This captures a nice, crisp photo of the partially popped balloon alongside your surprised expression. It is a really fun activity, and we will share the pictures with everyone.
Next, by the end of the day, I need you to clearly define your project's goal and Minimum Viable Product (MVP). I want you to be able to distill your project down to two sentences and a single, achievable objective. You need to be able to tell me exactly why you are here and what you are doing, so that in two weeks, you can confidently check that box and say you completed your project. Please have this written down—on cardboard or whatever material you prefer—so I know that every group has a solid plan.
Regarding materials, please try to add your requests to the ordering spreadsheet this week so your items can arrive by Monday. Getting your orders in early will save you valuable time down the road. However, do not feel rushed; I would rather you wait and get the correct items than order the wrong ones. That being said, if you only need something cheap and simple—like three-dollar mailing tubes—go ahead and request it now rather than waiting to find the "perfect" option next week.
Finally, as we head into the second week of our four-week program, punctuality will become increasingly important. You are going to start feeling a bit of a time crunch, which is completely normal since we will soon be 25% done. Because of this schedule, everyone must show up on time; if you are falling behind, you are letting your team down.
